Cardiovasular Pharmacists Group

Dear Colleague

Further to our recent communication inviting you to join the Cardiovascular Pharmacists Group (CVPG). In line with feedback we have received and a desire not to duplicate existing meetings we have revised the agenda and aims accordingly.

The aim of the CVPG is to complement the existing special interest groups of the Primary Care Cardiovascular Society recognising that pharmacists are an important part of the CVD healthcare team. The CVPG will provide a national network for pharmacists who have an interest in and provide, or support, the management of people with, or at risk of, cardiovascular disease in the community setting. The Group will provide education and support in the field of cardiovascular medicine, the opportunity to share good practice and personal experience, acquisition of new skills, the opportunity to pilot new services and initiatives and, of course, the opportunity to meet and develop dialogue with like-minded individuals from around the country, enabling you to learn from each other.

We are planning to hold the inaugural meeting of the CVPG on the afternoon of Thursday 19th March 2009 at a hotel in central Birmingham. The meeting will reflect delegates educational and clinical needs. The programme will run from 3pm to 7.30pm and will include short presentations aimed at enhancing attendees knowledge and skills, along with interactive discussions on specific initiatives that CVPG members have been involved with to help the group get acquainted. This session will be followed by an informal dinner and overnight accommodation. The meeting will be supported by educational grants from the pharma industry to cover the costs of the venue, accommodation and reimburse travel expenses.

We would be delighted if you could join us for our inaugural meeting and see what the PCCS and the CVPG have to offer. We anticipate you will find the information you receive of great interest. Should you wish to become a member of the PCCS/CVPG after this there is an annual fee of £50 and applications will be available at the end of the meeting.

As we are keen to cover a wide range of experiences we would like to give you the opportunity to present appropriate case studies. Please indicate on your registration form if you would like to contribute.
